RENAULT’S NEW CLIO 4 DYNAMIQUE A FINALIST IN WESBANK / SAGMJ 2014 CAR OF THE YEAR COMPETITION

  • Renault’s New CLIO 4 66kW Turbo Dynamique 5-door hatchback has earned its place as a finalist in the WesBank/SA Guild of Motoring Journalists 2014 Car of the Year competition.

One of just nine cars selected as a finalist in the competition, the flagship NEW RENAULT CLIO 4 66kW Turbo Dynamique comes from a long line of winners - local and international.

Generation on generation, CLIO has been celebrated as one of Renault’s quintessential top-selling cars with sales in excess of 12-million notched up since CLIO I débuted at the Paris Motor Show in 1990. One year after its launch CLIO I clinched the 1991 European Car of the Year title taking pole position again with CLIO 3 in 2006. In South Africa, CLIO 2 was awarded Car of the Year in 2000 with CLIO 3, a Car of the Year finalist in 2006 and 2007.

The New CLIO 4 launched in South Africa to much acclaim in April this year and perfectly embodies Renault’s new design identity says Fabien Payzan, vice-president of marketing and communications at Renault South Africa. “At launch, and with a unit sales forecast of 250 per month, our goal was to rank in the top five.

“We’re proud to say that New CLIO 4 is now firmly positioned in the top three of the models that are reported in its segment. The newcomer has overtaken Toyota Yaris and is hot on the heels of VW Polo and Ford Fiesta.”

Since launching six months ago, New CLIO’s dealer channel average is 400 units with a class segment share average of 9.8%. Its best performance to date was during September with a dealer channel segment share of 15.8% overtaking Ford Fiesta and scooping second place behind VW Polo.
