The Volkswagen Sasolracing team gets just one opportunity every season to compete in front of their home crowd. This is at the annual Volkswagen Rally which takes place in Uitenhage, Jeffreys Bay and Port Elizabeth this year.
This season rally fans will see the team back in Sasol colours and they have been working hard behind the scenes to make the event a high-point in their 2013 season.
“The Volkswagen Rally is a challenge we are all eager to tackle,” says Mike Rowe, head of Volkswagen Motorsport. “Not only is it the mid-point of our season, but for many of the members of the team this is a chance to show their friends and family the hard work that gets done at every event around the country.”
“For Volkswagen Sasolracing the home event is an important one,” says Rowe. “We will be aiming for our very best result so far this season and to really give the rally fans something to cheer about.”
Henk Lategan and Barry White will take to the start line of the Volkswagen Rally just a week after contesting the Veszprem Rally in Hungary. This is just their second international outing, but the pair have proved they can adapt well to make the most of every situation.
This should put Lategan and White on a good footing for the Volkswagen Rally and right in the mix as the teams fight for honours in the event. Their Volkswagen Sasolracing Polo S2000 is one of three entered in Volkswagen Sasolracing colours. Team stalwarts Enzo Kuun and Douglas Judd will be in the thick of the action as will their teammates, Hergen Fekken and Pierre Arries as each aims for the podium to mark the 31st running of the Volkswagen Rally.
Gugu Zulu and Carl Peskin will also be in action at the Volkswagen Rally, campaigning in their Volkswagen Sasolracing Polo Vivo S2000 Challenge rally car. The pair have been fighting hard to defend their S2000 Challenge this season and the PE event will give them the opportunity they need to add more points in their fight for honours.
For two days in the Eastern Cape the Volkswagen Sasolracing team will be working at their peak to claim honours – and rally fans will reap the benefits with an overload of motorsport action as they charge for the finish line at Kings Beach.
