Dust, narrow roads, tight corners, limited visibility, high speeds … all in a day’s work for the Volkswagen Sasolracing rally team when they tackle round one of the South African National Rally Championship in KwaZulu-Natal.

The event on Friday and Saturday, March 14 and 15, is the Tour Natal, a rally that marks the start of the 2014 season.

“This season Volkswagen Sasolracing has a diverse driver line-up, 19-year old Henk Lategan, the experienced Gugu Zulu and international driver Hans Weijs Jnr,” says Mike Rowe, head of Volkswagen Motorsport. “I am expecting each will make their mark on the 2014 season with the help of their talented navigators, Pierre Arries, Carl Peskin and Björn Degandt. Together they will show rally fans exactly what the Volkswagen Sasolracing Polo S2000 is capable of.”

Round one will see the Volkswagen Sasolracing Polo S2000s cover 195 km over 14 stages in the two days of the event – a rally known for being extremely tough on both man and machine.

“Volkswagen Motorsport has three decades of local rallying experience,” says Rowe. “Combined with the experience of our international colleagues in Germany that have most recently added, in their debut season, the 2013 World Rally Championship title to their list of achievements, we have a strong motorsport heritage. I believe the Volkswagen Sasolracing team will deliver a few surprises this season.”

The rally will start from the Scottburgh Country Club on Friday and rally fans can meet the teams before they leave for the first stage from midday.
