The Comsol VW Challenge makes its second visit of the season to the Midvaal circuit in Meyerton on Saturday, 25 October 2014. There will be more than 25 cars on the grid for the penultimate round of the 2014 championship.

When the series visited the circuit for the opening round of the championship back in the middle of February James Hurley (The Starter Pack Company Polo) took both class A heat wins and the lead in the overall championship. He still has a handy 26-point lead at the top of the overall championship log but Lyle Ramsay (Polo) has slowly been closing the gap and will be looking to reduce it even more on Saturday.

Darren Nathan (Sex Trader Polo) has had disappointing results in the last couple of rounds and will be looking for an improved performance to consolidate his third spot on the overall log. He is just five points ahead of Rory Atkinson (Comsol Polo). Waldie Mentjies (Performance Masters / Marty’s Body & Spray Polo) blew a motor at the last round and didn’t score any points. This allowed Jacques Smith (Triplicon Construction / ELB Construction / UTI Logistics Polo) and Henry van Vledder (Golf) to leapfrog him on the log and move into fifth and sixth places respectively.

Hurley has already wrapped up the class A championship and second place looks likely to go the way of Atkinson.

In class B Ramsay leads the way with a comfortable 25-point margin over Nathan. Gerhard Henning (Toyota Replacement Parts Polo) has been Ramsay’s closest challenger in the last couple of rounds and he still has a mathematical chance of finishing the season in the runner’s up spot.

Class C is where the closest championship battle is happening. Francois van Zyl (Jesus Saves Golf) didn’t score any points at Kyalami after suffering an engine failure. This allowed Smith to take the championship lead by nine points. Elke van Vledder (Golf) is four points behind van Zyl with Jakes Jacobs in the Nathan’s Motorsport Polo just a single point further back in fourth. Although he is not in contention for the class C championship – he competed in class B in the early part of the season – Henry van Vledder took both class C wins last time out at Kyalami and could well take points away from those that are fighting for the championship.

Qualifying will take place on Saturday morning at 08h30 with the first of the day’s two 10-lap races getting underway at 10h30. The second race is scheduled for 14h00.
