The iconic looks of the HUMMER H3 command respect and make this vehicle one of the most easily recognised in the world. The straight and flush windshield and side glass define the tough looks of the H3 while the large wheels placed at the extreme corners of the vehicle provide a cue as to the overall competence of the vehicle when the going gets tough.

The HUMMER H3 has been designed with the ultimate off-road experience in mind. Short front and rear overhangs contribute to generous approach, departure, and ramp breakover angles to handle extreme obstacles with ease. A relatively long wheelbase provides for a smooth on-road characteristics while reducing any tendency to pitch in off-road driving. A wide track further contributes to vehicle stability.

Ground clearance is 216mm and the vertical step height capability is 407mm. The HUMMER H3 can comfortably ford a water obstacle 407mm deep at 32km/h and can go as deep as 610mm at 8km/h.

The front suspension is independent torsion bar. The rear suspension is a “Hotchkiss” design semi-elliptic multi-leaf system.

That said the HUMMER H3 is just as much at home in an urban environment and is easy to manoeuvre in and out of tight parking spaces. An 11,3 metre turning circle allows the H3 to move around in an urban environment with ease.

A one-piece swing tailgate provides easy access to the load area which can provide as much as 1 557 litres of load space. Tough, durable materials protect the sides of the cargo area while rubberised covering protects the floor area. A full size spare wheel is mounted on the outside of the tailgate.

Front and rear recovery hooks are provided for extreme instances where the vehicle may become stuck. An aluminium front skid plate, embossed with the H3 logo, provides underbody protection.

Alloy rims are 16 X 7,5 inch in size and fitted with Goodyear Wrangler RT/S all-terrain tyres designed for high heat environments and comfort and efficiency in both on- and off-road motoring. The tread pattern is designed to provide biting traction with even tread wear and long tyre life.

The HUMMER H3 features full-time 4-wheel drive with an electronically controlled 2-speed transfer case. The transfer case provides for a 2,64:1 low range gear ratio. This provides for an excellent crawl ratio when “4LOW LOCK” mode is selected. The overall crawl ratio for the manual transmission version in this mode is 45,1:1 while that for the automatic transmission is 36,8:1.

Power for the H3 comes from a 3,7 litre 5-cylinder petrol engine with electronic throttle control and variable valve timing. Maximum power is 180 kW @ 5600 r/min with peak torque of 328 Nm @ 4600 r/min. Fuel consumption as low as 12,1 l/100km can be achieved at a steady 100 km/h. Average fuel consumption is estimated at 14,7 l/100km.

The interior of the H3 is distinctive and refined with an expressive HUMMER influence. Tight component fit with minimal gaps and flush surfaces provide a quality look and feel. Bucket type seats are fitted at the front while the rear seat is split 60:40 with a fold down option. Customers have a choice between cloth or leather trim with a range of coverings available.

Power windows, power side mirrors and power door locks are standard. The electrochromic rear view mirror has an illuminated inset with compass and outside temperature readings. Three auxiliary power outlets (two in the front and one in the cargo area) are provided. A front-loading radio/CD combination is fitted.

A comprehensive set of safety features provides for occupant protection. The HUMMER H3 is based on a tough, fully welded ladder type frame that provides an exceptionally strong base. Dual front airbags are fitted (with passenger sensing system) as are roof rail airbags for side on impact protection. Three point seat belts are provided for all seats. The HUMMER H3 has a 4-Star frontal and 5-Star side impact NCAP rating from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

A remote keyless entry system with panic button is standard. Anti-theft security is provided and is linked to a vehicle alarm system with battery rundown protection.
