New UD Oil and Lubricant range to be launched in 2012

Johannesburg International Motor Show, South Africa, 6 October 2011.  Little more than a year ago, UD Trucks Southern Africa launched its new name and brand in the region.

During this time, the company successfully implemented its brand roll-out programme to dealers across the region and retained its title as South Africa’s top truck exporter.

By the end of September 2011, UD Trucks has exported 163 units to the region and has increased its total sales to 2 454 units – a 31.3% increase on the same period in 2010.

“We are very proud of our company’s achievements over the past year and we believe that our vision of being passionate, professional and dependable in everything we do has translated into significant growth in the various market segments we participate in,” said Johan Richards, chief executive of UD Trucks Southern Africa.

“The brand change has been very well received by our dealers and customers alike, as Ultimate Dependability (UD) has over time become part of the company’s DNA and the way our customers relate to our services and products.”

Richards said that the company will now focus on strengthening the brand by building closer partnerships with their customers, and by engaging staff and dealers through various excellence programmes.  UD Trucks will also be launching a number of new products over the medium to long term, providing customers with trucks developed according to global quality standards and featuring leading innovations, but which remain applicable and relevant to the local market.

“As part of our objective to strengthen our brand across the region, UD Trucks is continually evaluating the quality of its dealerships across the region and the level of sustainable support they provide to our customers,” said Richards.  “Our dealer network is committed to add additional value to the quality product delivered by UD Trucks Southern Africa, and to support our commitment of providing the lowest lifecycle cost solutions to our customers.”

With a long and proud history in the region dating back to 1962, the company will celebrate its 50th year of existence in South Africa next year.  Apart from South Africa, UD Trucks Southern Africa has 60 dealers in Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Today, UD Trucks has also announced that it is to launch a range of branded oil and lubricant products in 2012.

“The introduction of the new UD Trucks Oils and Lubricant products forms part of our commitment to keep our customers’ lifecycle costs per vehicle to the absolute minimum,” said Richards.  “And we are only using products that adhere to the most stringent quality requirements and were specifically tested on UD Trucks to ensure its complete compatibility and effectiveness.”

The first product to be launched is VDS3 engine oil that has specifically been designed to provide maximum protection for engine components by reducing wear and minimises bore polishing.

As one of the world’s leading truck manufacturers, UD Trucks is investing a great deal of resources in developing vehicles and products that offer better efficiency, fuel economy and environmental responsibility.

One of the company’s key focus areas is roll-out of global quality standards in dealerships across Southern Africa. For this reason, UD Trucks Southern Africa’s dealer network has started phasing in the use of UD Trucks Oils and Lubricants in their workshops, and will expand their offering as more products are introduced in the future.

According to Richards, some of the advantages for customers to use the new UD Oils and Lubricants include the fact it will be more cost effective as prices are negotiated on a global platform.

In addition, this will mean extended oil intervals and lower CPK on the long run, effectively putting more money in customers’ pockets

UD Trucks Southern Africa also has a dedicated centralised call centre to facilitate roadside and emergency assistance to customers all across the region.   It is manned by skilled and knowledgeable operators to assist UD Trucks customers wherever they are.

The efficient and timely supply of quality UD Trucks parts remain one of the company’s main priorities.  The company’s dedicated distribution centre aims to provide the best service in the industry and contribute to the low lifecycle costs of all UD Trucks products. With more than 400 000 parts internationally and 28 000 locally – all of which are managed through a computer-controlled storage system – an industry-leading parts supply has consistently been achieved.

To keep providing customers with a level of service that adheres to stringent world standards, staff in our dealer network are constantly trained and empowered to stay abreast of the latest developments within the industry by the Merseta-accredited UD Trucks Academy.
