Toyota Dealer 450 in Mooi River will be spectator friendly

The Toyota Dealer 450 in Mooi River on April 4 and 5 will be another spectator friendly event for Donaldson Cross Country Championship enthusiasts.

The race will be round two of the national series and the move to the Mooi River area breaks new ground for an event which was previously based in Eston, outside Pietermaritzburg, and Richmond. With the opening race of the season, the RFS 450, moved from the Krugersdorp area to Harrismith it will be the second time in a row that Donaldson Cross Country Championship crews move into the unknown.

Race headquarters, the start/finish and the designated service park are all located at the Weston Agricultural College on the outskirts of Mooi River on the old road to Greytown. The route for the qualifying event to determine grid positions and the two loops that make up the 450 kilometre race crisscross the R622 between Mooi River and Greytown.

“There are seven designated spectator points along the route and they are all easily accessible from race headquarters,” said route director Adri Roets. “All the spectator points offer good viewing and close up action.

“Some of the designated points have multiple viewing options and in many spots race cars can be seen for long distances.”

Roets added there were other viewing options along the route, but these had not been designated as official spectator points. These areas would be mainly accessible by local residents.

“Mooi River is within easy reach of Durban and Pietermaritzburg as well as locations in Gauteng and the Free State, and we are expecting cross country enthusiasts to also take advantage of a wide variety of other attractions the area has to offer,” said Roets. “A weekend of top quality cross country racing, combined with the charms of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, is a difficult combination to beat.”

Public access to race headquarters, the start/finish and the designated service park is free of charge. There is also no charge at viewing points along the route, and spectator guides will be available at race headquarters and on

The qualifying race to determine grid positions will start at 11:30 on Friday, April 4 and the race at 08:30 on Saturday, April 5.
