Team Ford Racing is eagerly anticipating the upcoming round of the SASOL National Rally Championship following the teams first rally victory at the previous outing. The team made its debut rally appearance in the 2-litre powered Ford Fiesta ST at the start of the season and after much hard work took victory on Class N3 on the Eastern Cape Rally.
With a win in the bag the team are now more determined than ever to challenge at the sharp end of the field as they head for the notoriously challenging Osram Rally. Formerly known as the Mountain Trial, the Osram Rally is one of the toughest events on the National Rally calendar.
Etienne Lourens and Elvéne Coetzee still on a high following their victory last time out, will be confident of a strong result in their Class N3 Ford Fiesta ST. Although it will be their first time tackling the event with the Fiesta ST, Lourens is no stranger to the treacherous roads of the Southern Drakensberg having won the event in the past.
“The Osram Rally is a very fast event that encompasses sweeping gravel passes and sheer drop offs,” says Lourens. “We will need to strike a fine balance between outright pace and overall caution. One small mistake can be fatal.”
The Osram Rally will be centred in the Barkly East area and will get underway on Friday 15 August and with the final stages being completed on Saturday 16 August.
Also representing the Ford team will be Tony Barbosa and navigator Robbie Coetsee in their Class A5 1.3-litre Ford Ka.
“Following a strong performance at the previous outing the team’s confidence is at an all time high. The Osram Rally is a notoriously difficult event, and there will be a lot of pressure on the drivers to stay focused and avoid even the smallest error. Having said that I think we have a great car, a dedicated team and a talented line-up of drivers that will be eager to deliver another strong result,” concludes Team Manager; Roger Rouessart.
