(SOUTH AFRICA) March 14, 2012. Since its local launch in South Africa in July 2011, the new Kia Picanto has turned out to be one of Kia Motors South Africa’s most popular models, and this has been evident in all of the local and international recognition received to date.
During last year’s Johannesburg International Motorshow, the new Picanto was announced as one of the finalists in the running for the 2012 Wesbank Car Of the Year. This was followed by a nomination for best budget car in the Annual Peoples Awards competition (sponsored by Absa and Avusa), in late 2011.
On 28 February 2012, the awards ceremony took place at Monte Casino, where Picanto was named the winner in this category, as well as being crowed overall winner with the most votes received across all categories in the competition.
Just last week, the new Picanto 1.2 EX was announced as Top Car’s best budget car in it annual Best Buys competition. The Picanto beat rivals Ford Figo, Hyundai i10 and Renault Sandero to be named the winner in this category. “This is a great achievement for Kia, and we are very proud of the award”, comments Kia Motors South Africa’s National Marketing Manager, David Sieff.
“The Picanto has been very well received in the local market, and this has been evident in the feedback from the press”. “We have a real winner with the new Picanto and it’s great to be able to offer a car of this caliber to the South African motoring public. We are confident that its popularity will increase even more over the coming few years, thanks to its great value proposition”, he concludes.
