South Africa’s premier motor racing show, the WesBank Super Series, is off to clear skies and sunny beaches for a street race at the Top Gear Festival in Durban between 16-17 June. The South African National Championship categories which will feature are the Bridgestone Production Cars, the Engen Volkswagen Cup and the SA Single Seaters (i.e Formula Volkswagen and Formula 1600). They will be accompanied by the Lotus Challenge, which is an invitational event.

On Saturday, 16 June the above categories will qualify between 08:00 and 09:30. At 09:00 the festival gates open to the public. All categories will feature during a race on Saturday and another race on Sunday.

The Saturday race is a 10 lap or 15 minute race (whichever comes first) around the 2,1km circuit. Race 2 on Sunday will be a 12 lap or 18 minute race (whichever comes first).

The Bridgestone Production Cars comprise of Class A and Class T, featuring the likes of major manufacturers such as Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, Opel and Subaru. This South African National Championship is highly contested, with all competitors vying to win the coveted SA title.

The 1-make Engen Volkswagen Cup Championship will have no less than 34 competitors in the line-up, featuring competitors as young as 15, namely Calvin van der Linde and Jordan Pepper.

The SA Single Seaters is comprised of two different formulae. Spectators will be able to view South Africa’s best in action in close proximity and literally smell the fuel and rubber.

The action from MSA takes place around the Top Gear Festival Street Circuit content, which includes a spectacular Street Circuit show, featuring The Stig power laps, celebrity races and the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team, as well as a parade honouring the history of Grand Prix and F1 cars.

Top Gear Festival announced earlier this year that the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team will be the celebrated guest F1 team at the Festival and for the first time ever, motoring fans will hear the screeching roar of a Formula 1 engine on the streets of Durban as the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS car takes pride of place on the Top Gear Festival street circuit.

When visitors need a break from the action, they will be able to head into the impressive motoring expo, which will be packed with some of the world's greatest supercars, classics and motoring memorabilia.
