The seasoned full-time rally co-driver from Oxford shire in England, Robbie Durant (31), will occupy the co-driver’s seat next to Jan Habig in an M-Sport Ford Fiesta RS WRC car on the Wales Rally Great Britain from September 13 to 16. Durant has been a regular full-time co-driver for the past ten years and currently also co-drives for the young Harry Hunt in the Intercontinental Rally Championship.
Durant grew up surrounded by motorsport activities in what is called “motorsport valley “ in England. By the age of 18, after leaving school, he knew what he wanted to do, and became a motorsport electronics/electrical engineer working both in Formula 1 and as a co-driver.
He did his apprenticeship with the Arrows F1 team straight from school and is currently contracted to the Red Bull Formula 1 team as an electronics engineer.
In 2005 he became self-employed to give him more time to spend co-driving as he could no .longer spend so much time away from his work. His aim is to get some solid rally results in the United Kingdom.
Durant is also well known in the United States where he is a regular co-driver on United States Rally Championship events as a member of the Tanner Foust Mitsubishi outfit and he has competed on the Olympus and Rocky Mountain rallies.
He has also competed in six WRC events, but spends most of his time rallying, competing in Rallycross and with F1 projects.
Durant has had rally experience all over the world including Canada, Europe, China Argentina and Australia, but says that he would like to still rally in more countries.
When he is not busy with motorsport, he plays tennis, goes mountain biking and renovating his house to keep him sane.
His main goal is to reach the top of his sport and make sure that he enjoys along the way.
