Reliable Volvo S60 now available with 7 years or 140 000 km service and maintenance plan

Peace of mind motoring is an inherent value of Volvo, and something which the brand continually strives to improve. Among others, this is one of the outstanding features of Volvo’s S60 model, which has now been further enhanced by the addition of a service and maintenance plan for 7 years or140 000 km.

Volvo’s trusty S60 has outperformed many other competitors in its segment in the Synovate quality survey – proof of the quality of ownership that this model offers, along with its many other features which include class-leading advanced active and passive safety systems, exceptional ride quality, a discerning design style and engines that deliver both performance and fuel economy.

At a time when the cost of ownership of a car has increased due to higher interest rates and rising fuel prices, Volvo Car South Africa added value to the purchase of any of its S60 derivatives through an extension of its standard service and maintenance plan to 7 years or 140 000 km – whichever expires first. It means that, over and above the inherent reliability of the S60, you can do a lot of motoring for seven years or 140 000 km – with the knowledge that standard services and maintenance will not add to your cost of ownership of the S60.

The S60 also holds the promise that little goes wrong with it. That has been proven by its excellent performance over a number of years in the authoritative and widely respected South African Synovate quality surveys.

In Synovate’s Competitive Customer Satisfaction Index PP100 Report for the period September 2006 to February 2007, the Volvo S60 delivered an overall PP100 score of only 81 – which means on average there were 81 problems for every 100 cars sold.

Regarding dynamic functional aspects, the Volvo S60 ended second in 2006 in its market segment with a PP100 score of only 9. It was beaten only by BMW with a PP100 score of 3. Mercedes-Benz’s C-Class scored a PP100 of 19, followed by Toyota’s Avensis with 20.

Volvo has sustained the reliability of the S60 since its excellent overall 4th place in Synovate’s quality survey for the complete passenger car category in 2005. With its PP100 score of 69 the Volvo S60 outperformed many other brands, including some of its main competitors such as Audi and Mercedes-Benz. The average PP100 figure for passenger cars in that year was 137.

The Volvo S60 range offers a variety of derivatives with both petrol and diesel engines, all available with 5- or 6-speed manual or automatic and Geartronic gearboxes. The derivatives range from:

  • The S60 2.0T with its turbocharged 5-cylinder petrol engine which delivers 132 kW and 240 Nm torque. The S60 2.0T offers exceptional value with its comprehensive list of standard features and a suggested retail price of R268 500 for the derivative with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It has class-leading standard safety features such as a Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), a Side Impact Protection (SIPS) and Dynamic Stability and Traction Control;
  • The S60 2.5T which is powered by a 154 kW turbocharged petrol engine which delivers 320 Nm of torque. The benefit of the light-pressure turbochargers used in this derivative and the 2.0T is that very little power loss is experienced on the Highveld with its lower levels of oxygen versus sea level. As with the 2.0T it is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox, or the automatic Geartronic gearbox with the option of manual gearshift;
  • The powerful and sporty S60 T5 which needs only 6,5 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in the 6-speed manual derivative. It is a true performance car with a 5-cylinder high-pressure turbocharged engine which delivers 191 kW and 350 Nm torque, available between 2 100 and 5 000 rpm; and
  • The S60 D5 which offers ultimate turbodiesel fuel economy coupled with power and exceptional torque. Its 136 kW engine which delivers 400 Nm of torque gives it the attributes of an effortless cruiser, with performance which does not increase the fuel bill. It is also the S60 which is most suited as towing vehicle.
