RANGE ROVER LETS THE PEOPLE SPEAK
The people have spoken, and the word is out: Land Rover’s Range Rover is their SUV of choice.
In the annual People’s Wheels awards, initiated by Johannesburg-based publishers, The Future Group, responses from ordinary motorists are garnered with regard to the vehicles they drive or those that they aspire to drive. More than 101 400 votes and over 1 500 ownership responses were received in the 2014 poll.
The Range Rover Evoque (already the winner of more than 130 awards globally) added yet another by winning the SUVS and Crossovers – Town and Country section with a score of 24.71 percent. Interestingly, its cousin the Land Rover Freelander was placed second with 13.34 percent of the votes.
The Range Rover Sport won the Luxury Tourers section with 14.55 percent, with its stable mate the Range Rover in second spot with 12.29 percent of the votes.
Peter Biven, Jaguar Land Rover South Africa’s Marketing and Communications Director says: “We’re very proud to be held in such high regard by the motoring public of South Africa and this reinforces the esteem in which Range Rover is held. It is clearly the SUV towards which people aspire and is a brand completely in touch with the consumer.
“It is a tremendously exciting time for Land Rover and in the last 12 months we’ve launched not only an all-new Range Rover but also an all-new Range Rover Sport, both based on similar lightweight aluminium architecture which has revolutionised the SUV sector in terms of combining performance and dynamics with exceptional efficiency. Add in the charisma and cachet of the Range Rover brand and it is no surprise that it should emerge as the winner of two categories.”
