Autofarm celebrates 40 years of Purely Porsche in 2013
Independent Porsche specialist creates collage of Porsche models to celebrate 40 years of racing, servicing, restoring and selling Porsches
BICESTER, OXFORDSHIRE – In the same year that the Porsche 911 celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, independent Porsche specialist Autofarm has reached its own landmark of 40 years of trading. The Oxfordshire-based firm is planning a number of special activities during the year to celebrate the achievement starting with an image it has been created using only Porsche model cars. Following a tradition that started at the 25th birthday, it has also created a birthday logo to mark the occasion.
Autofarm was formed in 1973 when Josh Sadler bought a crash damaged 911, a purchase that led to the creation of a fledging parts business, at a time when Porsches were a much rarer site on Britain’s roads. In the late 1970s and 80s Autofarm’s reputation and size grew. Its participation as a racer, preparer and sponsor in Porsche motorsport contributed to it becoming one of the UK’s most revered specialists of the marque. In the late 1980s Autofarm also operated dealerships for SAAB and Suzuki in Tring but a desire to focus purely on Porsche, means today it caters for sales, servicing, restoration, engine rebuilds and competition preparation from an appropriate ‘farm’ location just outside Bicester.

With increasing support from Projects leader Mikey Wastie and recently recruited Steve Wood, Sadler, who continues to run the business today, has no plans to slow down just yet. Coupled with 2013 also being the 50th anniversary of the 911, it is set to be another strong year for the Porsche specialist. “Car sales and servicing are both exceptionally brisk and alongside three long term restoration projects, we also have two of our custom Autofarm 911s to complete this year.” As a further demonstration that performance is still at the heart of the company, Sadler who himself turns 70 this year, will debut his own Porsche 911 ST, a former factory prototype restored by Autofarm, in selected races this year.
In 1973 Josh started to develop his first 911 competition car. LGW4D did everything from production car trials through to circuit racing and even rallycross. It was also Sadler’s road car and survives today.
