JOHANNESBURG – 02 November 2010 – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) sales during October outran the market’s growth on last month. FMCSA sales grew 8,3% on September sales where market growth recorded 5,2%. According to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA (Naamsa), FMCSA sales rose 12% year on year.

“Ford continues to offer a fresh and balanced portfolio of products appealing to South African consumers,” says Vice President Marketing, Sales and Service, Dean Stoneley. “The upgraded Focus performed well in its first full month of sales and the market can look forward to new  versions of the Fiesta and Mazda 2 as well as an all-new Mazda5 before the end of the year. These product introductions will certainly continue the attraction for Ford and Mazda as we enter the final stretches of 2010 sales.”

The SA new car market ended October on 44,055 units, 22% up on the same period last year. Passenger car sales rose 25% on October 2009, while Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) sales increased 13,5% over last year. Year to date sales for the industry are 23.8% ahead of the same period in 2009.

“The fall-out of the industrial action during September continued to be felt during October sales as stock levels came under pressure, but consumer confidence is higher and, combined with the lowest interest rates since 1979, November sales should perform well before the traditionally slow holiday season,” continued Stoneley.
