JOHANNESBURG – 02 December 2010 – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) continued to build market share during November to 10,7%, its second highest share of the South African new vehicle market this year. As the company’s momentum continues to gather sales pace, FMCSA also re-entered the Top Three passenger car companies, closely challenging GMSA for the podium spot in the general new vehicle rankings.

“Our product portfolio continues to offer South African customers vibrant and practical choice,” says Vice President Marketing, Sales and Service, Dean Stoneley. “This is witnessed by the launch this month of the Fiesta sedan that should continue our sales momentum into December, as well as the imminent introduction of the new Mazda5.”

According to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA (Naamsa), November new vehicle sales rose 29,6% year on year to 44,365 units. Both passenger and LCV markets performed well during the month, 28,9% and 28% up respectively on November 2009.

“Year-to-date sales are 24,3% up, reflecting the somewhat rejuvenated economy and demand for new vehicles,” continued Stoneley. “With the aid of an additional cut in interest rates, affordability is at some of its best levels ever, particularly in the lower end of the market where products like the Ford Figo offer safety and quality at a best-in-class value.”

Ford’s Ranger showed an increase in demand during November, with 796 units sold.

“The year should end on a higher than expected sales result for the South African new vehicle market. The country is showing resilience in a reviving economy and we expect to see continued growth in 2011,” says Stoneley.
