Luton – Two care homes run by Sanctuary Carr-Gomm have taken delivery of a new Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 Exclusiv, which has been purchased after years of dedicated fundraising.

The homes in Victoria Square and Montserrat Road in Lee-on-the-Solent care for adults with learning disabilities and the new Zafira will be used to transport residents around the local area.

In order to purchase the vehicle, the two care homes started joint fundraising in 2004 and have held two fundraising events each year since, from summer outdoor family games days to carol concerts in the winter.

The fundraising brought in more than £10,000 and parent organisation, the Sanctuary Group, donated the remaining funds needed to buy the vehicle.

Care home manager, Lesley Senior said: “We’re thrilled to have finally taken delivery of the Zafira after many years of fundraising. I’d like to thank everyone who made this possible for all their hard work and support.

“The Zafira will make a real difference to our residents – we will be able to use it to transport them to their activities, such as evening clubs – rather than them having to use taxis. This will give them more freedom and will enable them to do more, improving their quality of life.”

Vauxhall Fleet Sales Manager, Steve Beattie, commented: “We were delighted to supply this Zafira to the Sanctuary Group care homes and are very pleased to see that the car will be helping residents get out and about in the local area.”
