Johannesburg SA –  The trendy and hip centre of Melrose Arch is abuzz as a week of fashion gets underway with the start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa from 24 October to 28 October 2012.

Local and international designers, buyers and fashionistas converge at one of the most desirable addresses in the City of Gold – Johannesburg – for the long-awaited Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa.

Following the tremendous success of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Cape Town, the week promises to entice with a line-up of over fifty designers showing “African Fashion at its best”!

Household names such as Marianne Fassler, David Tlale, Gavin Rajah and Abigail Betz will be amongst top African designers from exotic and exciting African countries including neighbours – Angola, the DRC and Mozambique, to Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Nigeria, Tanzania, Ghana, Trinidad and Morocco.

“Mercedes-Benz values its partnership with AFI (Africa Fashion International) as the opportunity to bring together designers from all over Africa is exciting and promising.  The accessories, fabrics and colour schemes chosen are items that detail many of the fashion looks on the cutting-edge of both street fashion and broader design themes playing out within the industry,” says Claudia Mende, Marketing Manager, Mercedes-Benz Cars.

“The culmination of all these successful events will be the awards ceremony on Sunday 28 October, with a number of awards being handed out to emerging designers and local and international designers,” adds Mende.

Amongst these exciting African designers, Mercedes-Benz is highlighting a fashion icon of its own, the all-new 2012 G-Glass.  Drawing patrons to the fashionably displayed G 63 AMG with its mighty V8 engine delivering 400 kW of power and 760 Nm of torque, this legendary iconic model remains the star attraction.

Designed and developed over thirty-three years ago the G-Class is one of the most highly-recognizable luxury off-road vehicles with no real competitor.  The G-Class has been voted off-roader of the year countless times over the past years including this latest edition.

It is equally at home throughout the city streets and extremely athletic while seriously going off-road.  Its sculpted, muscular body and hand crafted interior is fit for fashion and its design and capabilities shows-off well in any situation.

“The fashion industry knows better than anyone the importance of looking great and fashionable in the season’s hottest collections,” added Mende.

“The new G-Class demonstrates how refined sportiness and the evolution of technology can be iconic, whilst at the same time fashionable and trendy,” concludes Mende.

Over the years more and more G-Class models are seen on roads in a number of countries in Africa, as it is a product that has proven itself in unchartered territory.

The eye-catching, heart-stopping G 63 AMG remains on parade at the event during the week prior to its official launch in mid-November.

The full new range of G-Class models including the G 350 BlueTEC, the G 500 and the G 63 AMG will be available at all Mercedes-Benz passenger car dealerships thereafter.
