Uber-Luxury Experience Expands NAIAS Brand
The NAIAS has always been considered four shows in one: Press Preview, Industry Preview, Charity Preview and the Public Show. A fifth "show" has been taking shape since 2007 and is further being enhanced for 2012.
The Gallery, a premier VIP auto experience second to none, will bring even more discriminating auto enthusiasts to the doorstep of uber-luxury automakers at the upcoming show. NAIAS officials have announced that they are making 100 additional tickets available to this exclusive, invitation-only event held at the MGM | Grand Detroit on Sunday, Jan. 8.
The attendee list is limited to 500. The Gallery will showcase at least 25 uber-luxury brands, complete with unveilings of never-before-seen vehicles, a strolling pre-glow dinner with renowned celebrity Chef Wolfgang Puck and a post-glow fashion event. Auto Show Intros Bring the World to Detroit
The final touches are being put on the NAIAS press conference schedule with an expected release date soon. While mum's the word on the introductions planned, NAIAS officials report that 95 percent of the reveals will be worldwide intros.
It's these intros and the presence of top industry leaders and government officials that bring the world to Detroit every January. In fact, executives from some of the most important motor shows in the world will be visiting the NAIAS 2012. Some of these include organizers of international shows, such as Bologna Motor Show, Denmark's Car for Everyone Show, Frankfurt | Motor Show, Lyon Motor Show, Paris Motor Show, Seoul Motor Show and Tokyo Motor Show.
NAIAS Team Welcomes Former Frankfurt Motor Show Director
Dr. Kunibert Schmidt, former director of the Frankfurt Motor Show, has joined the NAIAS team as an industry consultant responsible for representing the Detroit show to manufacturers, media, suppliers and other important audiences in Europe.
Based in Berlin, Schmidt retired in 2009 after 32 years with the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), which presents the Frankfurt show. He was managing director of the show. NAIAS Readies Lineup of Events for 2012
The NAIAS 2012 Calendar of Events continues to build. Here's a sampling of what's in store. On Sunday, Jan. 8, the Society of | Automotive Analysts will hold its Annual Automotive Outlook | Conference featuring leading analysts and economists discussing "Consolidation, Expansion and the Drive for Profitability." On Jan. 10 - 12, the industry's top executives will share their plans for reviving and remodeling their companies for global growth at the Automotive News | World Congress. Real Times Media, LLC through its Who's Who | Publishing Company will unveil Driven II, the second edition of its tribute to African-American achievement in the auto industry on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
The AutoWeek Design Forum on Thursday, Jan. 12 will feature a powerful lineup of auto designers focusing on "Designing for Today's Consumer." Also on Jan. 12 will be the Multicultural Media Luncheon, honoring minorities in the auto industry and featuring Daymond John from the ABC show, "Shark Tank."
EyesOn Design Awards Featured at NAIAS
For the seventh consecutive year, under the leadership of Tom Gale, Chrysler's legendary design leader, the Detroit Institute of | Ophthalmology (DIO) will host EyesOn Design Awards at NAIAS 2012 on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
The prestigious awards recognize the most significant automotive designs featured at the show as judged by a panel of global design leaders from major domestic, Asian and European OEMs.
The panel also includes the professors of design from influential academic transportation design programs and a cadre of leaders from renowned design studios. Urban Wheel Awards Named Official Multicultural Event at NAIAS
The 16th Annual Urban Wheel Awards, hosted by Decisive Media, has been named the Official Multicultural Event of the NAIAS 2012. The annual awards show will be held on Sunday, Jan. 8 in the Soundboard Theatre at the Motor City Casino Hotel in Detroit. Hundreds of media, automotive executives, businesses, politicians, celebrities and community and trade organizations will convene to promote multicultural consumer awareness among auto manufacturers, suppliers, dealers and the communities they serve. "Big Four" Take Economic Club Stage
The Detroit Economic Club (DEC) and the Detroit Auto Dealers | Association, along with WWJ-TV CBS Detroit will again present the headline-grabbing "Big Four" event featuring Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel. Moderator for the event will be Carol Cain, Emmy-winning senior producer and host of WWJ-TV CBS Detroit "Michigan Matters" and Detroit Free Press columnist.
The DEC meeting will be held live inside the NAIAS on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Cobo Center. The program also will be taped for broadcast on "Michigan Matters" at a later date. This is the third year for the event, which is always a sell-out. For more information and tickets, click here.

A recent look at the geographical breakdown of NAIAS Facebook users simply reconfirms the show's global reach. Of the thousands who "like" the NAIAS, many are from far reaches of the world, including Turkey, Malaysia, Thailand, Egypt, South Korea, India and the Philippines. Other Facebook fans include those from Mexico, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Brazil, France, Spain, Puerto Rico, Austria, and, of course, the United States and Canada.
