A CAR dealership director from Birmingham who combines her day job with writing novels is about to have her fourth book published.
Gillian Hamer, who has a busy full-time job running Red Rose Mitsubishi in Kingstanding, will launch the crime novel Crimson Shore at Barton’s Bookshop in Leatherhead, Surrey, on November 15th.
The following day, November 16th, will see Gillian take part in a Q&A at an Indie Author Fair at Chorleywood Bookshop in Hertfordshire.
Gillian said: “It’s a busy time and I’m really looking forward to the launch of the new book. There’s been a lot of interest in the Indie Author Fair and there’s some big sponsors so it’s quite exciting.”
Her latest book follows detective Dara Brennan on the trail of a killer after a series of apparently unconnected crimes.
Gillian’s previous novels, Complicit, Closure and The Charter, were part of a trilogy published by Triskele Books and are available in paperback and e-book. The Charter has just been turned into an audio book as well.
She said: “It’s the first of my books to be made into an audio book which is great. We will see how it goes and if it’s successful then we will do the same with the others.”
For the past two years Gillian has been represented by the Shelley Power Literary Agency, based in Hove, while running her busy Mitsubishi dealership. She has been writing for the past 13 years and has completed a creative writing course and an Open University forensic science course so that she could learn more about the topics she covers.
Gillian said: “I don’t have a lot of time to write and find I work better to a deadline. If I have a date to reach, I will work every spare hour – from 6am in the morning before work to midnight at night.”
