Miriam Makeba on Google USA and Canada


Today if you visit the Google USA or Google Canada Search Engines you will find a little bit of South Africa on the first page. Today Google have surprised us here at 3D Car Shows with the Miriam Makeba Google Doodle.

We know the story of Miriam Makeba too well. Miriam Makeba was born about 25Km from our offices here in Johannesburg in the Prospect Township in Johannesburg South Africa. She was born on the 4th of March in 1932, eighty one years ago today.

Miriam Makeba was a singer and a humans rights activist with a beautiful voice who conquered the world, when she lived in exile during the apartheids era when the world accepted her, but her own country did not!

She was the first South African black artist to win a Grammy award in 1966, She sang for Presidents and even the pope. Miriam Makeba was a close friend to Mr Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa, and he himself asked her in 1990 to move back to South Africa.

Miriam Makeba passed away on the 9th of November 2008 at the age of 76, while performing at a concert in Castel Volturno in Italy where she suffered from a severe heart attack! Thousands of South African’s mourned her death.
