Mickey Thompson launches Metal Series wheels
The M/T Metal Series is a range of serious wheel for serious 4x4s
Mickey Thompson has added a new model to their line-up but it isn’t black and round with a hole in the middle.
Rather, it’s to do with the equally important item that fills the centre of the tyre, and whilst new Mickey Thompson wheel introductions aren’t a common occurrence - the brand eschews fashion-driven trends, preferring to focus on an exclusive range of classic styles -- they’re worth waiting for. The new M/T Metal Series range is no exception.
The focus is on quality and achieving a high strength to weight ratio, and that translates into a minimum load rating 1 130 kilograms for Metal Series wheels – a figure significantly higher than the vast majority of rival aftermarket rims. By way of comparison, a well-known aftermarket wheel brand has a load rating of 950 kg for a similar size.
Mickey Thompson SA recently took delivery of the first shipment of these precision engineered alloys, with two eye-catching styles available: the MM366 and the MM245. Both look even better when shod with tyres that carry the M/T name, and of course they’re designed to complement each other perfectly.
The 8-spoke 366 is available in 18- and 20-inch diameters, and a nine-inch width. The option is the 245 – with its five broad spokes radiating from its beefy centre - in 18x9. Additional styles and sizes will be added in the coming months.
“Like Mickey Thompson tyres, Metal Series wheels are aimed at the discerning 4x4 enthusiast who wants a product that can be relied on when there isn’t a fast fitment centre at the next corner,” says Mickey Thompson SA Brand Manager, Mike Harling. “Wheels look pretty much alike to the untrained eye but the Metal Series is much more than just a pretty face and there’s cutting-edge technology behind the purposeful styling.”
Recommended retail price starts at R20 000 for a set of four in 18-inch, with Mickey Thompson wheels (and tyres) available 4x4 specialist stores and select tyre dealers. For more information you can contact them on 011 670 8400.
