The new MG Maxifuel Pro Cycling team leads the National Club Road & Track rankings, according to official figures released today (Wednesday, April 10) by British Cycling.

The team can now celebrate leading their series along with the MG KX Momentum Racing team which is leading the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Rod Freeman, Team Principal of the two-wheeled squad, said: “We couldn’t let the car guys take all the glory and while they battle around 20-odd cars in a race, we head the national rankings of more than 40 of Britain’s top cycling teams.”

The cycling team use two MG6 GT cars as vital support cars, while on the car tracks, Jason Plato and team mate Sam Tordoff race in slightly more powerful race prepared versions of the road-going MG6.

Double BTCC winner Plato leads the 2013 championship with newcomer Tordoff in third place. The MG KX Momentum team also heads the team championship.

The next round of the BTCC season is at Donington Park on April 21.

Meanwhile the cycling team is in action this weekend with the men at Gravesend in the Tochin House stage race. But the priority event for the team is the ladies, who take part in the second round of the National Team Series at Twickenham in the Dave Peck Memorial. The 53m race starts from Virginia Water Football Club at 11am.
