Mercedes-Benz SA agrees to adopt the Buffalo City Metro
- Mercedes-Benz South Africa to sign Memorandum of Understanding
East London: Mercedes-Benz South Africa (Pty) Ltd (MBSA) has principally agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) later this month which will see the large auto company share its knowledge and experience, as well as its facilities and some of its infrastructure with the Buffalo City Metro.
Barry Canning, MBSA divisional manager for product and planning, has been instrumental in drawing up the parameters of the MoU and in determining the areas where MBSA can assist the metro in its efforts to improve efficiencies and service delivery as part of a longer term sustainability strategy.
“With the ‘Adopt a City’ initiative of the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, we are keen to assist our own ‘hometown’ in its determination and dedication towards changing the BCM into a real benchmark for South African cities and metro’s. That is our mutual aim,” says Canning.
“While the final agreement is yet to be signed, the only details I can share at this point are that the elements which MBSA will help implement at the metro will optimise service delivery and improve overall performance. These will certainly benefit all East Londoners – individuals, local government, industry, private and commercial enterprises alike.”
“As a world-class plant which has consistently won the highest of international and local accolades we believe it’s the right thing to do – and to assist where we can.”
