Mercedes-Benz ends third quarter 2014 on a high
September sales saw Mercedes-Benz passenger cars end the third quarter of 2014 with record sales of 3 164 units, resulting in total sales of 19 336 units year-to-date, posting a market share of 6.8%.
“It is pleasing to see that in a declining market with year-to-date sales down by -2.3%, rejuvenation of our model range has shown record sales giving us a fantastic third quarter result,” says Selvin Govender, Marketing Director, Mercedes-Benz South Africa.
“Tipping the scales is our new-generation C-Class models with sales of 1 534 units in September, making a significant contribution to the overall figures. The C-Class has been well accepted into the market place and this has been recognised with the coveted JD Power quality award bestowed on our East London plant recently,” adds Govender.
Awards and accolades are well received and the brand recently topped the charts in the recent Ipsos survey. Not only did Mercedes-Benz have the three highest quality models in the E-Class, C-Class Coupe and C-Class petrol models, but the brand also collected two important gold awards as best luxury brand overall and best factory producing passenger cars in South Africa. The C-Class is manufactured locally which illustrates the very high standards that are achieved by our local manufacturing industry.
Adding to these awards are the recent “Sunday Times Brand Award” for Best Brand and the Loeries 8th Marketing Innovation award.
“Our executive E-Class range accounts for more than 1 700 units year-to-date and continues to be a best seller. Models from our Dream Car range, the E-Class coupé and cabriolet continue to lead their respective segments,” added Govender
“The best car in the world – the new S-Class also leads the upper-premium segment with 435 units year-to-date being delivered, and we are pleased to say that our flagship delivers on all levels of safety, comfort and superior engineering,” says Govender.
The compact car range from Mercedes-Benz is now complete with the addition of the new GLA 45 AMG to the range, and these models provide all-round driving performance. In addition to the popular A 45 AMG and CLA 45 AMG, the GLA 45 AMG is the third vehicle from AMG with a four-cylinder turbo engine that appeals to a younger target group. The trend-oriented customers set great store by styling, dynamics and independence – traits that are perfectly embodied in the new high-performance compact SUV.
The feisty A-Class model range in the compact car segment is fast gaining in popularity with both loyal and new trendy customers buying in to the brand. The A-Class is now readily available at all local Mercedes-Benz dealerships.
“New innovative safety systems, together with new engines producing enhanced power and performance, whilst at the same time reducing fuel consumption considerably, has seen many of our customers familiarise themselves with the benefits of the latest technology,” concludes Govender.
Mercedes-Benz passenger car models come standard with a PremiumDrive 6-year/100000 km maintenance plan, with no customer contribution. Added to this, all Mercedes-Benz passenger cars carry a high resale value, giving customers peace of mind in the current tough trading environment.
