  • The robust specialist for on- and off-road operations

The trucks and semitrailer tractors from Mercedes-Benz which are designed specifically for tough service conditions go by the name of Arocs. The Arocs Euro VI is suitable for demanding off-road tasks, winter services and road maintenance. It can also be adapted to customers’ specific requirements as a roll-off tipper/skip loader.

Mercedes-Benz Arocs

BlueTec 6 engines and PowerShift 3 transmission

The fuel-efficient BlueTec 6 engines come in 16 different output levels from 175 kW (238 hp) to 460 kW (625 hp). As six-cylinder in-line engines with turbocharging and intercooling, they are designed for high tractive power from an engine speed only just above idling. The four displacement variants ranging from 7.7 l through 10.7 l and 12.8 l to the new top capacity of 15.6 l in the new OM 473 generate maximum torque of 1000 Nm to 3000 Nm.

As standard, the engine power on the Arocs is transmitted by automated Mercedes PowerShift 3 transmissions. Different drive programmes have been specially developed and can be implemented according to the vehicle’s application. The available drive configurations range from the 4×2 two-axle vehicle with rear-wheel drive to the 8×8 and 8×8/4, a four-axle truck with all-wheel drive and two steered front axles. Four-axle vehicles with one front and three rear axles, a broad choice of air-sprung vehicles or concrete mixer chassis with enhanced load capacity and featuring a tandem drive and single tyres are just a few examples of the variety available ex factory in the Arocs range. Seven cabs are available in 14 variants.

In addition to the Loader product group, the Grounder line is a new addition to the Arocs range. The Loader exploits the available weight-saving potential to the full. The robust and brawny Grounder is designed rather for off-road operations in tough conditions.

Public service vehicle solutions for the Mercedes-Benz Arocs

The orange-painted Arocs 2545 L 6×2 on show at IFAT 2014 with a 330 kW (449 hp) Euro VI engine is fitted with a roll-off tipper from Palfinger. The Palift T20.70 telescopic roll-off tipper with a lifting capacity of 20 t is suitable for handling containers with a minimum length of 4750 mm and a maximum length of 7000 mm. The equipment is provided with a high-speed gearshift for a high working speed, a compact pick-up hook with mechanical locking device and a welded mechanical DIN bolt-type latch.
Another representative of the “orange fleet” is the Arocs 2040 4×4, which will be demonstrating its strengths as a winter service vehicle with equipment from Küpper-Weisser/Meiller. The Grounder with its 290 kW (394 hp) engine will be presented in the configuration with the CombiWet single-chamber gritter. The gritter has been designed for deployment of the spraying equipment using the common hydraulics (drive H).
Also on show – in the outside area – will be a robust Arocs 2040 4×4 chassis suitable for extreme operations, with a steered trailing axle and pneumatic rear axle suspension.
