falls in a very competitive segment, however, Mercedes-Benz is no stranger to this segment as we invented it over 15 years ago with the first A-Class.  To date we’ve sold more than 2.1 million A-Classes. Sales of the new A-Class commenced in Europe in September 2012 – just five months ago - a total of 90 000 orders have already been received - this is what I call a great start!”

“Extensive market research shows that a new and modern target market has started to show interest in the brand, as the dynamic, powerful, luxurious and stylish Mercedes-Benz vehicles fit their lifestyle. The target group for our new generation compact cars definitely includes our existing customer base as well as the new middle class and progressive mainstream individuals who have started to make the brand part of their consideration set.  With our latest introductions to the compact car segment we have an opportunity to attract young and discerning consumers who are also looking for power and performance embodied in a sporty and stylish design, with all the traditional Mercedes-Benz values of safety and reliability,”  added Dr Zimmermann.

International guest speaker, Joerg Prigl, Head of Design and Development, Mercedes-Benz Compact cars, gave the audience some insight into the development stages and the rigorous testing of the all-new A-Class before the vehicle was introduced to the market.

The final result, “No other car in this segment is as progressive and sporty as the new A-Class,” confirmed Prigl.

With the new A-Class, Mercedes-Benz will be setting new standards in the premium compact car segment. The brand will launch the much anticipated new A-Class with the A-revolution campaign.
