FORD MOTOR COMPANY OF SOUTHERN AFRICA’S RESPONSE

The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa has reported positive sales figures for the month of March. Total industry sales for the month came in at 64 071 (includes 6 172 AMH sales), 3.9% up on March 2006 and 9.7% up on the previous month (February).

Ford Motor Company recorded new vehicle sales figures of 7 665 units, 19.2% up on the previous month, 3 845 units were passenger vehicles and 3 820 units were commercial vehicles.

“We’re delighted with Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s performance this month,” commented Jacques Brent General Manager Mazda South Africa. “We enjoyed strong sales on all fronts and move into the number three slot in the manufacturer rankings.” 

Ford Bantam set a new sales record with 2 100 models sold during the course of the month. Other models showing impressive growth were Ranger (1 027), Fiesta (997) and Focus(580).

“Sales on Ford Bantam increased by 18.6% over the previous month, a trend we hope to continue in the future.”

The industry split saw 36 041 passenger vehicle models sold and 18 619 Light Commercial Vehicles. Again the trend we saw from February was continued into March with Naamsa reporters passenger vehicles sales showing negative growth (-3.9%) with commercial vehicles offsetting at 16,7% growth vs March 2006.

“The industry is currently in a period of consolidation and is enjoying positive growth trend of 5.7% year on year. We expect that this will be the trend throughout the year,” he concluded.
