Kia sponsors cycling for a good cause with Hospice Wits and Smile Foundation

On Saturday, 17 September, Smile Foundation and Hospice Wits are partnering to host The 2011 Kia Spinnathon®. The Kia Spinnathon® 2011, held from 12:00 – 21:00 at the Piazza in Melrose Arch, gives all entrants the chance to get in shape for summer by cycling to the beats of celebrity DJ’s, whilst meeting some of the country’s foremost celebrities.

Adding to the fun and excitement of the day, celebrities will also be taking part in the Spinnathon. Melanie Beresford, Event Coordinator and Fund Raiser of Hospice Wits, says: “We are delighted to once again interact with the public and raise awareness of and funds for the work we do in the community by hosting our annual Spinnathon® with new partners in 2011.”

Expressing excitement about being involved, Kia Motors South Africa PR and Product Marketing Manager Andre Pretorius said: “This is a great cause to stand behind and Kia is honoured to help these organisations who do not have access to government funding so that together we can make a difference in the lives of deserving people. We would also like to call on the public to partner with us and support this initiative.”

The Kia Spinnathon® 2011 has 100 Spinning® Bikes per session, with professional Spinning® Instructors leading each session. Each session will run for 50 minutes, with a 10 minute break in‐between to facilitate changeover of bikes. Companies are encouraged to enter in block bookings and challenge their opposition as the event is an excellent opportunity to build team spirit and create brand awareness.

All proceeds will go to the Hospice Association of the Witwatersrand (Hospice Wits) and Smile Foundation. The funds raised will be used to support the Palliative Care Programmes of Hospice Wits and the work of the Smile Foundation in providing Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery for Children with treatable facial conditions. Both beneficiaries receive no state funding and rely on their own fundraising efforts.

“Funds raised will assist Smile Foundation in helping more children receive the gift of a smile. Our reach is contingent on donor funding and every individual who enters the Spinnathon® will be making a contribution towards offering these children the surgery they require” says Michelle Gerszt, Fundraising and Marketing Executive of the Smile Foundation.

“We are thrilled to join forces with Hospice Witwatersrand as combined beneficiaries of the event and look forward to a fun-filled day for everyone involved.” Says Michelle Davis, Marketing Director of Melrose Arch: “Melrose Arch is very proud to be associated with The Kia Spinnathon® 2011 in partnership with Hospice Witwatersrand and the Smile Foundation.

We welcome all spinners, cyclists and enthused participants to Melrose Arch and hope that you will have an enjoyable day in aid of two fantastic charity organisations! The event will be hosted as an opportunity for all visitors and families to enjoy the full experience that the mixed use environment of Melrose Arch has to offer,” Davis said.
