The manufacturers of the acclaimed St Francis 50 Catamaran says their Fun Boat will offer identical levels of design excellence, construction and functionality.

In order to achieve the design objective of a shallow draft, low wake boat, the hull was constructed with specific attention to detail. Rather than a plaining boat, the St Francis Fun Boat with its fine bows has been designed to gently slice through the water. A third “mini hull” creates extra buoyancy aft, allowing it to glide over shallow sandbanks.

This adaption also makes use of “surface effect”, wherein a dam of air between the hulls is compressed, which translates into lift, further reducing the wetted surface area, (rather like a hovercraft). Due to this design characteristic, this craft goes faster into the wind than with it, reducing fuel consumption and providing an impressive turn of speed.

“This boat is ideal for dams and rivers as well as the ocean,” says Jaco Hamman, Production Manager at St Francis Marine.” For this reason we are really looking to the Johannesburg Boat Show, where we will be able to interact with Gauteng-based boaters. A number of our staff are very familiar with the particular attractions of Harties, and the Vaal Dam.”

Hamman says that because the Fun Boat is of a modular design, the customers are able to create the exact boat configuration tailored to specific needs. It will also to be possible to order different modules later in the boat’s life-cycle and change it according to changing needs.

The St Francis Marine design team is currently working on a sailing configuration as well as a cabin boat version. So whether it be a bass fishing boat, a river cruiser, a day sailor or something for an overnight getaway, the Fun Boat dishes up  options aplenty.

At 6.2m long by 2.3m wide there is ample space for family and friends. The St Francis Fun Boat is certified to carry 12 passengers on inland waters & 6 passengers out at sea. Recommended power is between 40HP and 150HP, and the boat is offered in single and dual-engine configuration.

St Francis Marine will also be promoting its word-acclaimed  St Francis 50 catamaran, which won a gold medal in its class at the world-famous Annapolis Boat Show in the
