Efficiency is the key

A completely new Honda Civic makes its first South African appearance at the 2011 Johannesburg International Motor Show, allowing visitors to the expo an early look at the newcomer ahead of its local launch in early 2012.

The new Civic is being shown in five-door hatchback and four-door sedan forms, and features a combination of confident, aerodynamic styling and intelligent interior packaging, allowing superior passenger accommodation and generous luggage space.

Expressing Honda’s global commitment to the reduction of fuel consumption and emissions across all its product ranges, the new Civic hatchback and sedan place a greater emphasis on aerodynamics, and feature more efficient drivetrains.

The newly developed engines consume less fuel and emit lower exhaust gas levels, and feature the latest, most advanced renditions of Honda’s i-VTEC intelligent variable valve timing system.

Significant improvements have also been achieved as far a comfort levels, ride and handling characteristics, and overall refinement are concerned. Changes to the suspension set-up have enhanced both comfort and body control.

A particular focus on combating noise through the use of improved insulation materials has substantially enhanced overall ride refinement and interior comfort levels. The new Civic’s aerodynamic efficiency has also contributed to maximising overall refinement.

In the interests of efficient packaging and luggage space, the five-door Civic features a unique centre fuel tank configuration to deliver class-leading utility, while an extensive European test programme has resulted in excellent handling and stability.

Quality is a further hallmark of the new Civic, further extending Honda’s enviable reputation in this regard. The interiors are elegantly executed, with a particular focus on tangible quality, efficient ergonomics and advanced entertainment and driver assistance systems.

The new Honda Civic will again be offered in both four-door sedan and five-door hatchback derivatives, with a choice of efficient petrol and advanced turbodiesel engines.

Honda Motor Southern Africa will be launching the four-door Civic range in South Africa in early 2012, with the five-door hatchback making its local debut in April.
