NASREC, Johannesburg – Jeep® Wrangler is the vehicle that started the genre and is by far the world’s best-known open-air 4×4 vehicle. It blends its rugged good looks with 65 years of legendary Jeep capability, providing customers with the perfect excuse for heading off into the great outdoors.
Jeep Wrangler has no competitors that can match the emotional connection with the outdoors and the excitement of driving with the top down, doors off and, if desired, the windscreen folded down on off-road trails. Wrangler offers even more standard features to set it further apart from its would-be competitors.
Jeep Wrangler vehicles feature a six-speed manual transmission with hard-finished gears for improved gear-change quality and better noise vibration and harshness. This gearbox gives Wrangler a lower first gear for brisker acceleration plus a higher top (sixth) gear for quieter and more economical cruising at speed with reduced engine revs.
Two models of Jeep Wrangler are available in South Africa – Sport and Sahara – both fitted with a 4,0l PowerTech six-cylinder engine. While the six-speed manual is standard for both models, customers opting for Sahara derivatives can choose instead the alternative four-speed automatic transmission.
A complete package of competitive standard features
The Jeep Wrangler comes standard with a Quadra-Coil suspension, which has high articulation to keep all four wheels on the ground in rocky terrain, along with a limited-slip rear differential and Command-Trac® drivetrain, Wrangler’s responsive shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system is capable of seamlessly adapting to any terrain. Power assisted recirculating ball steering provides a turning circle of just 10,25 m and only three turns lock to lock.
Additional standard safety features include an anti-lock braking system (ABS), next-generation front air bags, a driver’s side constant-force seat belt retractor, self-adjusting low-tension three-point seat belts with height-adjustable top anchorage points, child seat anchor system (LATCH/ISOFIX) and Sentry Key® engine immobiliser.
Inside, all Jeep Wrangler models now have an updated audio system with AM/FM radio and single CD player. On the Sahara model, two-tone Medium and Dark Slate Grey seats plus Stainless Silver colour instrument binnacle and centre stack freshen the interior look.
Jeep Wrangler’s combination of standard features, traction, maneuverability and versatility has often been copied but never truly matched. Its reputation for taking on and beating some of the toughest off-road trails in the world – such as the Rubicon Trail in South Lake Tahoe, California (USA) – provides customers with the utmost confidence, while offering them a sense of fun and freedom with its unique features such removable doors, fold-down windscreen, hose-down interior and true “wind-in-your-hair” 4×4 experience.
