GEELY TO ENTER TURBO AGE
- Geely nearly ready with own turbo engines
- Turbo-charged small displacement engines coming
- Geely to launch first turbo model before end 2014
Small displacement turbo-charged engines packing a huge punch will soon be seen in some new products from Geely.
Although the Geely passenger car division of the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group has shown various turbo-charged power plants at international motor shows over the last few years, the Chinese private automaker has not introduced this technology yet.
But all that is about to change…
The first turbo power plant in the Geely stable will be the 1.3-litre version. The company’s first turbo offering will be the Gleagle GC7 1.3T, which is expected to be launched within the year.
The 1.3T will crank out a respectable 99kW and will be paired to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic from Geely’s DSI arm.
Although the Gleagle GC7 (not available in SA yet) is not a new car, it has been around for several years under the Gleagle range.
Geely is also looking at bring small turbo-charged engines for its current EC7 series, which was launched in South Africa last year.
