PRETORIA, South Africa, Sept. 12, 2012 – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa showed its support of young rugby talent by sponsoring the Mpumalanga National Craven Week Sevens selection trials.

The Ford MPowerFM 7’s Cup Challenge took place early in September, with 25 of Mpumalanga’s schools top rugby players being selected from an initial group of 156. The 25 players will take part in a trial on 22 September at Middelburg Hoerskool. This group will then be reduced down to 12 which will form the Mpumalanga squad to play in the National Craven Week Sevens Challenge in October.

Ford has a longstanding relationship with South African rugby, having been involved extensively in local rugby and currently sponsoring the Mpumalanga-based Ford Pumas.

“Ford seized the opportunity to sponsor the Puma rugby team in the prestigious Vodacom and ABSA Curry Cup rugby championship,” says FMCSA's Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Service, Dean Stoneley. “This event provided us with the opportunity to extend our involvement with Mpumalanga rugby and further nurture the province’s future rugby stars.”

Ford is committed to playing an active role in supporting rugby in South Africa. Not only is it one of this country's favourite pastimes, but it serves as an inspiration for many, and instils an overwhelming sense of national pride and unity.
