Pretoria – 28 October 2011 – Team Ford Racing team is ready to take on the challenge as they near the penultimate round of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship at Zwartkops raceway in Pretoria West on 5 November 2011.
The team will tackle two back to back sprint races, as well as a two-hour endurance race. As per the regulations, each vehicle will require two drivers for the endurance race. This will give former Production Car driver, Garth Waberski a chance to team up with Gary Formato, whilst Shaun Duminy will once again share his BP / Castrol Ford Focus ST with Graeme Donker.
Formato currently leads the Class T championship and the team has decided to enter a third vehicle in an attempt to steal as many points away from their competitors as possible. The third car, affectionately dubbed “girl power” will be shared by talented lady drivers, Andrea Bate and Naomi Schiff.
Bate did well in her first outing in the Ford, claiming a podium finish at Killarney. Schiff looked promising during testing and is expected to put in a few surprises.
“We are just two events away from championship victory and whilst we are feeling confident, we have to remain focused and ensure that we don’t make any mistakes. Zwartkops is our home circuit, the Fords are strong and I believe we have a winning combination,” commented Formato.
“Entering a third car is a huge strategic advantage for us and I know that Naomi and Andrea are going to make us proud,” concluded Duminy.
Round 8 of the WesBank Super Series could see Ford Racing clinch the Championship and Ford fans are encouraged to come support the team. The first set of races will take place at about 14h00, with the endurance race starting at 17h45.
