Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa is proud to be able to assist its surrounding communities by contributing to the well being of its youth. FMCSA recently donated
R15 000 to the MEDICOS Special School as part of an annual and ongoing contribution.
The MEDICOS school, situated in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, is a special day school for mentally handicapped children. Most of the children come from the surrounding areas of Soshanguve, Mabopane and Garankuwa.
“We are grateful to Ford Motor Company for continuing to support our school,” explains Mrs Shabangu of the MEDICOS School. “Many of the children who attend the school come from low income homes where their parents cannot afford school fees. This means we have to rely on volunteers and the goodwill of others to keep our school going.”
One of the major challenges faced by that community was that children often got lost coming to school or going back home, and some even got abused en route. To stop this problem, Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa provided a bus to transport the children. The bus has also been serviced free of charge by Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa.
“The funds provided by Ford have been used to set up the school’s welding project. The school didn’t have a welding class before, but thanks to the funding from Ford we have been able to initiate this project, which has proved to be a great success,” she added.
“We are delighted to be able to assist the MEDICOS school,” explains Hal Feder President & CEO of Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa. “The school is an important part of the community and through the hard work of the dedicated teachers and volunteers they have been able to better the lives of many young children.”
“Our contribution is used primarily to fund the schools welding project. We hope that by learning this valuable skill many students from the school will be able to progress into the workplace and perhaps one day even form part of the Ford Motor Company work force.”
The MEDICOS Special School together with the SOS Children’s Village are designated charities of Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa.
