, held this past weekend at Nasrec Expo Centre from August 24 to 26, drew unanimous praise from exhibitors at the show.
“We’re really happy with the show as far as people through the doors are concerned, it has had an awesome response,” said Lisbeth Plotz, Managing Director of Lowrance South Africa, the specialist marine accessory company based in Durban.
“The PR for the show has been fantastic and there was an air of professionalism about the show, right down to the food stores and so on. Everybody I spoke to had the same response, and for us, it is obvious that the South African economy is on the up-swing, it’s been really good.”
Dean Castle of Leisure Boating Magazine said that this was the best boating show his magazine had attended to date.
“We’ve had so much fun, there’s been so much to see and do. Being three shows in one, there’s just so much more to attract visitors. And we are definitely coming back next year.”
Deidre van Niekerk of O’Brien, one of the fearless wake-boarders who performed dare-devil stunts in the Nasrec Lake, said it was fantastic.
“It was much better having it at Nasrec this year. The variety of people rolling in here was awesome. Everyone has been so pumped, and it’s been a great chance to bring our sport to the people.”
Brian van der Bijl, who is involved in running superbike schools at Kyalami, was an interested visitor to all three components of the combined boating, outdoor and motorcycle show,.
“It’s a fantastic idea. As motorcyclists we are outdoor people, and so are the boating and camping crowd. It’s given us the chance for us guys to take a quick look at what’s going on in these other areas of the leisure industry, and the idea is so good, I kind of wonder why it hasn’t been done before.”
The Johannesburg Boat Show was run in conjunction with the AMiD Motorcycle Show and the Outdoor Lifestyle Show at Nasrec Expo Centre, South of Johannesburg.
The combined shows attracted a total of 189 exhibitors. A total of 109 boats were on display at the event.
