At 15 Van der Linde is a year younger than his brother Kelvin was when he won the title in this series two years ago – and is also the youngest national saloon car racing champion in South African history

While Van der Linde emerged as the latest champion in the Engen Volkswagen Cup series, Mathew Hodges (M3 – ITR Africa / 959 Panelbeaters) put his name on the Masters title for the season. Hodges has competed in this series for the past eight years, with the 2014 season his first in the Masters category (for racers older than 27).

A championship victory for Van der Linde and a second place overall in the Engen Volkswagen Cup championship for his teammate Daniel Rowe (11 – Ferodo Racing), saw Ferodo Racing claim the Volkswagen Team Award for the season, with 11 race wins, 13 podium results, 14 pole position starts and 13 fast laps recorded between them from 16 race starts.

The overall results for the year see Van der Linde (who received the Rookie of the Year award) at the top of the podium, Dewald Brummer (2 – MAD Racing / Grand Prix Models) second and Daniel Rowe (11 – Ferodo Racing) in third place. The drivers received R25 000, R15 000 and R10 000 respectively for their achievements this season.

While Hodges finished as the top Master, Trevor Bland (M6 – PG Glass / Suburban Panelbeaters) was second and Juan Gerber (M8 – Haupt Racing) was third. Here the racers were awarded R12 500, R7 500 and R5000 each.

The Most Improved Driver of the Year was awarded to Andrea Bate (37 – Monroe Racing) for her performance, improving from a 19th place finish in 2013 to finishing in seventh spot this season.

The Driver of the Day award for the final race day of the year was made to Shaun La Reservée (7 – Alpine Motors / Compendium Insurance) who finished second overall at the Zwartkops event.
