ToyotaDiscussions between senior management at Toyota South Africa Motors, striking staff and representing union Numsa (the National Union of Metalworkers of SA) continued today at its Prospecton plant in KwaZulu-Natal.

Both parties worked towards resolving a dispute regarding the implementation of a 2010 National Bargaining Forum wage agreement.

The discussions follow an unprocedural and illegal strike that started during the second shift on Monday 1 October and has continued since.

“We are confident that we will be able to resolve the issue soon and hope to restart production at the first possible shift,” says Dr Johan van Zyl, President and CEO of Toyota SA Motors.

Despite being unplanned, the strike action at no point became unruly, nor did any staff member cause malicious damage or harm to any person or property at the plant. Any news to the contrary is considered malicious, untruthful and contrary to the spirit amongst employees at Toyota South Africa Motors.

More information on the resolution, the nature of the strike and restorative actions will be communicated as soon as the dispute is resolved.
