Concrete Show 2014 – Volvo Concrete Mixer Trucks
FL TRUCKMIXER ON CIFA STAND AT UK CONCRETE SHOW 2014 (HALL 5, A67)
Spanners Mixer Hire and Volvo Trucks will be exhibiting an 18-tonne GVW Volvo FL chassis equipped with a CIFA four cubic metre truckmixer at the UK Concrete Show this week at Birmingham’s NEC. Spanners Mixer Hire, based in Market Deeping near Peterborough, are the official UK agents for CIFA truckmixer bodies.
With its compact 2.1 metre wide cab and low chassis weight of 5200kg, including fuel and Adblue, the Volvo FL represents an ideal platform for lightweight mixer operations in urban and suburban areas.
The FL’s excellent manoeuvrability in the confined spaces prevalent on housing developments and in suburban areas is aided by its 3500mm wheelbase.
The example on display is equipped with a Euro-5 260hp (Peak torque 1010Nm) variant of Volvo’s D7F engine coupled to a ZT01109, nine-speed, range-change, manual gearbox with overdrive and crawler gear (Ratio spread from 9.48 to 0.78:1). This combination offers good fuel economy at the higher limited road speeds on dual carriageways and motorways.
The engine PTO on the display truck is a Volvo PTER1400 SAE 1410 with flange drive. The rear-axle is a Volvo RSS1132A with diff lock.
The D7F has recently been replaced with Volvo’s all-new, Euro-6 compliant D8K engine. This is available in ratings of either 250hp (Peak torque 950Nm) or 280hp (Peak torque 1050Nm).
The new D8K features common rail fuel management and overhead cam with both EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction).
Volvo Trucks offers a full range of Euro-6 compliant chassis for the truckmixer segment:
4 cubic metre – The new Volvo FL818 with a new 250 or 280hp D8K 8-litre engine.
6 Cubic metre – The Volvo FE 320 6×4 B-ride for maximum payload. Now available with the brand-new 8-litre D8K engine or the Volvo FM or FMX B-ride with either an 11- or 13-litre engine from 330 to 500hp (FM) and up to 540hp in the (FMX).
8 Cubic metre – The FM, FMX and even the FH 8×4 with either high- or off-road defined X-High chassis on FM and FMX models. The traditional B-ride steel suspension is now supplemented with the option of air suspension even for off-road designs. For additional manoeuvring a new 8×4 tridem bogie is available with a rear-steer tag-axle. The FM and FMX are available from 330 to 500hp (FM) and up to 540hp (FMX), although the Volvo FH is available from 420 to 540hp.
