General Motors South Africa has announced that its popular half ton pick-up the Corsa Utility has become part of the burgeoning Chevrolet family.

The Corsa utility has been a sales leader in its segment for over 60 months. When the current model was first introduced in 2004 GMSA’s engineering team worked closely with their Brazilian counterparts to make sure that the local version was tailored to local conditions from the outset with local requirements being incorporated at the design stage.

Add to this a degree of flexibility with specification enabled by local manufacture and it is little wonder that the Corsa Utility has secured itself the position of top seller in its class since shortly after its introduction.

From the outset GMSA targeted an ambitious set of new benchmarks for the class. The second generation Corsa Utility arrived in South Africa after a number of key competitors and ahead of others. An aggressive set of product design and development parameters ensured that it entered the market with class leading specification and has retained that advantage as new competitors have entered our market.

As a brand that offers reliability, quality, value and safety Chevrolet is a perfect fit for the Corsa Utility which is characterised by class leading style, comfort levels, practicality, performance and reliability in a safe package.

The Corsa Utility is quiet in operation with excellent NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness) characteristics; has excellent steering feel with power assistance ensuring that minimum effort is required to keep it on track; and offers excellent handling, ride comfort, and braking capability in both laden and unladen conditions.

The Chevrolet Corsa Utility not only offers contemporary styling and excellent driving dynamics with a high level of safety and comfort but also excellent utility features.

An element of the design of the Corsa Utility that is appreciated by both commercial and recreational users alike is the ample passenger and utility space provided within the cab. Such is the advantage offered that General Motors registered the name “Maxicab” for the Corsa Utility.

An exceptionally long seat travel for vehicles in its class ensures that the Corsa Utility can accommodate even the tallest of drivers and passengers in comfort. Interior cargo space is substantial and is easily accessible.

The Corsa Utility is offered in a broad range of diesel and petrol models with a choice of either a 1.4 litre petrol engine; a 1.7DTi diesel turbocharged and inter-cooled engine, or a 1.8 litre petrol engine. In all instances a 5-speed manual transmission is fitted.

The 1.4 litre multi-point fuel injected engine offers maximum power of 66kW @ 6200 r/min and torque of 115Nm @ 3200 r/min. Top speed is 160 km/h with a 0-100 km/h time of 12,8 seconds.

Average fuel consumption is in the order of 7,6 l/100 km. (Performance and economy figures as measured by GMSA engineers.)The 1.7 litre turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine produces 55kW @ 4400 r/min with maximum torque of 165 Nm available between 1800 and 3000 r/min. Top speed is 150 km/h with a 0-100 km/h time of 15,4 seconds. Average fuel consumption is in the order of 5,7 l/100 km. (Performance and economy figures as measured by GMSA engineers.)

The 1.8 litre engine, also a multi-point fuel injected unit, produces 79 kW @ 5400 r/min. Maximum torque is 160 Nm @ 2600 r/min. Top speed is 185 km/h with a 0-100 km/h time of 10,3 seconds. Average fuel consumption is in the order of 7,6 l/100 km. (Performance and economy figures as measured by GMSA engineers.)
