The New Citroën C1 heralds a new era of city motoring, where the emphasis is on practicality and efficiency tailored for the urban environment, but without sacrificing driver enjoyment. With a cheeky personality, eager road manners, unrivalled manoeuvrability and low operating costs, getting around has never been so much fun.
It reaches South African showrooms on November 1st , and like its predecessor (of which more than 780 000 examples were sold worldwide) continues to offer an upbeat solution to urban mobility requirements, in a thoroughly contemporary package.
Available initially as highly-specced five-door Feel model, the C1 combines dynamic and lively design with a spacious interior and compact exterior dimensions.
The front boasts the key characteristics of Citroën’s latest models, with a new two-part headlamp and vertical LED daytime running lights. Geometric tail lights with a modern, three-dimensional effect are a highlight of the pert rump.
Adding indisputable fashion appeal to the C1 range is the stylish C1 Airscape, which enables an al fresco feeling at the touch of a button. A full-length, retractable fabric roof slides all the way back to the rear hatch so that you can let the sunshine in…and when necessary it can be closed in seconds, for refinement and insulation which matches the steel-roofed version. It really does offer the best of both worlds.
Despite being one of the most compact cars on the market, the Citroën C1 is both versatile and practical, carrying up to four adults in comfort. Nimble dimensions (overall length is 3.46 metres, width is 1.62 metres while the wheelbase is a mere 2.34 metres) and a 10 metre turning circle along with electric power steering makes for easy handling, and effortless city parking and manoeuvring.
The interior combines a vibrant design with user-friendly features. Your ideal day-to-day partner, it boasts a range of convenience features and convenient storage compartments.
The 196 litreboot (up from 139) is easy to access, with the parcel shelf folding away when the tailgate is opened. A 50/50 split rear seat provides additional flexibility and with them folded, total luggage capacity increases to 780 litres.
The zippy newcomer sets high standards for road handling and ride comfort. A new electrically-assisted rack and pinion delivers precise and accurate steering.
South African customers can look forward to the new PureTech engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. This 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, 61kW petrol engine achieves fuel consumption of 4,3 litres/100 km on the combined cycle, while emitting just 99g/km of CO2. Rewarding performance is ensured thanks to 116 Nm, endowing the C1 with 0-100 km/h acceleration of 11 seconds and a top speed of 170 km/h. Servicing is only required every 20 000 km.
With its low running costs, affordable price tag, city-friendly sizing, zesty performance, and Gallic flair, the new Citroën C1 is the perfect combination of freedom and fun. It’s a feeling that’ll prove hard to resist.
