Johannesburg, 5 November 2015 Castrol launches Nexcel, a revolutionary technology that marks one of the most significant oil change innovations in automotive history.

The Nexcel oil cell is an easy-to-change unit containing both engine oil and filter. It’s been designed to reduce tailpipe CO2 emissions*, to improve vehicle servicing and to increase the recycling of used oil for road cars of the future.

Nexcel: What is it?

The system offers manufacturers and motorists three primary benefits in CO2 reduction, sustainability and servicing.

Nexcel has been designed to reduce tailpipe carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by ensuring a precise oil-engine match and helping the oil to warm up more quickly.

The plug-’n-play oil cell slots in and out under the bonnet, changing oil and filter in one quick, clean step that takes only about 90 seconds. It allows installers to offer more flexible and convenient service options to customers.

The sealed oil cell ensures that used oil is collected safely and can be recycled back into high quality engine oil products.

Revolutionary technology makes oil changes quick, smart and simple

The Aston Martin Vulcan track-only supercar will be the first vehicle featuring Nexcel technology.

Aston Martin CEO Dr Andy Palmer said: “We believe that the Aston Martin Vulcan sets a whole new standard in the ultra-high luxury supercar class, just as the Nexcel technology sets a whole new standard in engine lubrication.

“It therefore made perfect sense for us to bring these two innovations in engineering together, and showcase their capabilities.”

The Nexcel system has been tested on a range of engines from very small city cars to cutting-edge high-powered racing engines in the most extreme of conditions. It functioned smoothly even under severe braking of up to 1.8G, the equivalent of a vehicle travelling at 100km/h stopping dead in 1.6 seconds. Additionally, the system oil flow has been tested up to 600 litres a minute – 10 to 20 times greater than seen in a conventional passenger car engine.

Testing and installing Nexcel on a low volume car like the Aston Martin Vulcan track-only supercar allowed the oil cell’s development to be accelerated, meaning it will be ready for mass market production much sooner. The system will be fitted as standard in the Vulcan; road cars fitted with Nexcel are expected to go into production within five years.

Paul Waterman, Castrol CEO, said: “We believe this is the biggest leap forward in oil change technology in the history of the combustion engine. Castrol’s engineers are leaders in their field and have come up with a really innovative piece of technology. It’s the result of almost three years’ work but as soon as people see the benefits in reduced emissions and servicing as well as the substantial environmental benefits, they wonder why it hasn’t been done before.”

* Tailpipe CO2 emissions: Based on NEDC.  Real world benefits will vary by driving style, conditions, car & trip.[/fusion_text]
