The BMW 3-Series E36, formerly king of the fast lane and sweetheart of the corporate parking lot, has been crowned the greatest inexpensive car of the 1990s by readers of Car Mechanics Bargain Cars, the new automotive publication honoring the UK’s most coveted, fascinating, or best-value vehicles.
Following Affordable Cars on Facebook and Instagram, readers chose the bargain Beemer as the best car, just defeating the Mazda MX-5 for the top place. Prior to the opulent Jaguar XJ saloon, the MGF, the MX-5’s fiercest rival, came in third.
The Fiat Bravo and Brava made an appearance in the final top 10, demonstrating that excitement for Nineties vehicles of all shapes and sizes remains there and being appreciated by fans. However, other strange automobiles also got a look in.
“Bargain Automobiles is about legendary vehicles that represent the best value they ever will, and it’s cars from the 1990s that offer the most in terms of future classic appeal and investment potential, yet they’re still able to be maintained at home and used everyday,” said Peter Simpson, editor of Bargain Cars. There is a great upsurge in interest in vehicles from this era, and the variety of the top models chosen by our readers and followers demonstrates how intense the desire is for all varieties of Nineties classics.
The complete top 10 was:
- BMW E36
- Mazda MX-5
- Jaguar XJ
- Ford Mondeo
- BMW E39
- Alfa Romeo 156
- Citroen Saxo
- Peugeot 306
- Fiat Bravo/Brava
