Batik Indonesia Google Doodle

Today October 2, 2014 is a day of fashion for Indonesians everywhere as they mark National Batik Indonesia Day. “Batik” is a traditional Indonesian cloth that has roots in the country’s historical artwork. In celebration of their culture, Indonesians dress head-to-toe in “Batik” for the holiday.

Google Indonesia decided to partake in the “Batik Indonesia” day with a “Batik Indonesia” Google Doodle on the Indonesia search engine homepage. In the Doodle there is a variety of presumably Indonesians with Batiks and the doodle is quite colorful.

The tradition of making batik is found in various countries, including Nigeria, China, India, Malaysia, Philippines and Sri Lanka; the batik of Indonesia, however, is the most well-known. Indonesian batik made in the island of Java has a long history of acculturation, with diverse patterns influenced by a variety of cultures, and is the most developed in terms of pattern, technique, and the quality of workmanship.

On October 2009, UNESCO designated Indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
