Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s response

  • FMCSA sales up 26,5% on April 2011
  • Ford Ranger retails 1 322 units, second in the 1-ton LCV
  • Ford Figo in Top 3 passenger car sales
  • Total SA market up 10.5% on April 2011

fordPRETORIA, South Africa, 03 May, 2012 – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) sales increased 26,5% on the same month last year as the total new vehicle market grew 10,5% over the same period. But April sales were expectedly slower than the previous month, due to public holidays and fewer selling days.

Despite the traditionally slow sales month, FMCSA passenger car sales rose 7% on April 2011, while the group’s Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) sales increased 44% driven by continued stable supply of the new Ford Ranger.

“April sales performed relatively admirably with passenger and LCV sales up 12,1% and 7,2% respectively over the same month last year,” said Stoneley. According to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA (Naamsa), April sales ended on 42,617 new vehicles.

“In addition to over 1,300 Ford Rangers finding new homes in SA in April, Figo continues unabated, once again in the Top 3-selling passenger cars. The outlook for the remainder of the year looks promising, not only from a general market perspective, but particularly from a FMCSA perspective with a wide-range of new model launches,” concluded Stoneley.
