Google once again surprised everyone this year with their “let it snow” feature. If you type in your search bar “let it snow” and stay on the screen without moving your mouse it will start snowing all over your screen.

Let it Snow

“Type the words let it snow into google as in the image above and you will see your computer screen frost up with the snow falling onto your search results”

This will slowly frost-up your computer screen. If you then move your mouse on the screen you will be able to scrape some of the ice off your screen and the search results will once again become visible.

I have a feeling that as we get closer to Christmas we will discover more of these hidden features and surprises from Google. For me personally I like the “Let it Snow” feature the most.

Although the “Christmas” and “Santa” feature have been on Google more or less the same time as the Let it Snow feature it seems like the media is reporting mostly on the let it snow feature.

Will we have a “White Christmas” this year?

If you look at what the weather services are reporting we might not experience a “White Christmas” this year as they are forecasting a low percentage probability of snow this Christmas. But if one looks at all the BUZZ that were created around the google “let it snow” feature it is very likely that it will snow this Christmas.

The Northern Hemisphere Christmas:

It is very traditional for the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Canada to have a white Christmas. All though people have to ask and wish for it to snow on Christmas morning.

The majority of Americans, Canadians and Britain’s celebrate Christmas with the exchange of gifts and greetings and with family visits. For many, the day begins on Christmas Eve with the Midnight Mass. At Christmas it snows in many states, so dinner is usually eaten indoors. Dinner usually is roast turkey, goose, duck or ham served with cranberry sauce, then plum pudding or pumpkin pie followed by nuts and fruit.

Traditional Christmas in the Southern Hemisphere:

In the Southern Hemisphere it does not help to sing the song “let it snow” during Christmas time. In the Southern Hemisphere they celebrate Christmas in the Summer. They celebrate Christmas much the same way as in the United States, UK and Canada with the main difference that the food will be served “cold” or in some cases “hot”.

Traditional Christmas food in South Africa and Australia during the Christmas period will include chicken, turkey, ham, beef & lamb, salads and prawns. Trifle, pavlova and Christmas pudding, served cold with cream and custard, usually to finish off the meal.

We have created a video of the “Let it Snow” feature for people that might not have Firefox or Google Chrome installed.

The Original Lyrics of the Let it Snow song

Oh the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful, And since we’ve no place to go, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

It doesn’t show signs of stopping, And I’ve bought some corn for popping, The lights are turned way down low, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight, How I’ll hate going out in the storm! But if you’ll really hold me tight, All the way home I’ll be warm.

The fire is slowly dying, And, my dear, we’re still good-bying, But as long as you love me so, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!
