- Belgian legend and rising WRC2 star set to entertain Goodwood crowds
- New and improved Goodwood Forest Rally Stage presented by SKODA
- Two factory-prepared Fabia S2000s to run all weekend
- Improved viewing areas at the two-mile stage for 2013
Milton Keynes, 5 July 2013: Freddy Loix and Sepp Wiegand will star for ŠKODA at the Goodwood Festival of Speed – driving a pair of factory-prepared Fabia S2000s on the Forest Rally Stage and Hillclimb.
Fresh from his record-extending eighth victory on the Ypres Rally (and his third in a Fabia S2000) 42-year old Belgian rally legend Loix is making his second appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, having thrilled the crowds there in 2010.
It will be an all-new experience for 22-year old Wiegand, who makes his Goodwood Festival of Speed debut. He is Germany’s brightest up-and-coming rally star, having won the nation’s junior rally championship in 2011 and become a works ŠKODA AUTO Germany driver, competing in the 2012 Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) and this year’s FIA World Rally Championship in the WRC2.
This is the third consecutive year that ŠKODA has supported the Goodwood Festival of Speed and presented the Forest Rally Stage. This time two works ŠKODA Motorsport rally cars will come from the team’s headquarters in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic.
Whilst the Goodwood Festival of Speed is celebrating its 20th anniversary, this will be the eighth time the Southern Car Club organised Forest Rally Stage has run. This year’s spectacular chalk-surfaced Forest Rally Stage has been lengthened from 1.7 to two miles, with the start and finish sections extended out of the wooded area for even better spectator viewing.
Commenting ahead of his appearance at Goodwood, Freddy Loix said: “Goodwood Festival of Speed is a fantastic event. It’s a real gravel stage and I try to give the passengers in my car a good sensation and the spectators a great show. I think everyone really enjoyed it, and I’m looking forward to putting on a good show for the fans this year as well.”
Sepp Wiegand added: “The Goodwood Festival of Speed is such an historic event, I never expected to participate in it and now I can’t wait to go there with ŠKODA Motorsport. So many of my favourite drivers will be there – there will be lots of my heroes driving at Goodwood. It’s a good stage and the Goodwood Estate is very beautiful – and with motorsport in the grounds it will be perfect!”
The Goodwood Festival of Speed runs from 12-14 July 2013, with the Goodwood Forest Rally Stage presented by SKODA running throughout the three-day event.
