Stuttgart – Daimler commercial vehicle brands will be presenting a great number of premieres at the International Motor Show for Commercial Vehicles (IAA) in Hanover in September this year. Whether trucks, buses or vans: the main focus for all brands and models will be on more environmentally-friendly, economically-efficient and safer vehicles and major assemblies. Whether trucks from Mercedes-Benz and Fuso, buses from Mercedes-Benz and Setra, vans from Mercedes-Benz or major assemblies and services – they all represent Daimler’s innovative leadership.

More economic despite Euro VI: developers come up with brilliant ideas

The joint aim uniting all brands and product ranges is to produce both extremely efficient and at the same time very eco-friendly transport vehicles: Daimler supplies the cleanest and most economical trucks and buses with Euro VI emissions standards as well as extremely economically-efficient and eco-friendly vans. For instance, the new trucks and buses have lower fuel consumption than their predecessors despite the Euro VI emissions standards – a brilliant engineering achievement. And last but not least, numerous new features are increasing our lead in the field of safety and assistance systems.

Thus Daimler commercial vehicle brands are once more emphasising their leading role in environmental technology (Clean Drive) and safety (Safe Drive) as part of the new strategy for “Shaping future transportation”.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks: world premiere for the Antos

The Mercedes-Benz Antos is celebrating its world premiere at the IAA for commercial vehicles. With its new engines in accordance with Euro VI emissions standards as well as other tailor-made solutions, it is the first truck to be specially designed as a vehicle for heavy-duty short-radius distribution and is perfectly equipped for a wide variety of uses. The new volumer and loader versions achieve record figures for payload and loading height. At the same time, the Antos is a premium truck setting new standards in safety and comfort for deliveries and distribution.

Actros: new versions, unique technical features

The new Mercedes-Benz Actros continues to be the most economically-efficient truck for long-distance hauls. It is increasing its lead with the third generation of the unique Active Brake Assist. The new Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) links GPS information about routes with the transmission system, making it a perfect assistant for foresighted and fuel-efficient driving. The Actros is also appearing with additional versions as volumer and loader. New engines are expanding its operative spectrum. A show truck will be showing the great variety of ways in which the new Actros can be customised.

Unimog: the implement carrier of tomorrow

Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks is allowing a first view of the future of the Unimog with an exciting technological packhorse – one more world premiere for the IAA for commercial vehicles. The headline for the Unimog of tomorrow simply reads Euro VI, under which a completely new generation of implement carriers U300 to U 500 with fascinating technical features will become visible.

Fuso: the new Canter Eco Hybrid really pays

On the basis of the new light Canter truck, the Japanese Daimler subsidiary Fuso has once more quite clearly refined the hybrid drive. The new Canter Eco Hybrid will also be produced in Europe from the third quarter of 2012 on and will be the first truck in its class with hybrid drive. Fuso has managed to make sure that the hybrid drive pays off after only a few years – a great stride forward for alternative drive systems.

Mercedes-Benz Vans: world premiere for the nippy Citan

Mercedes-Benz Vans has expanded into a full-line supplier with the new city van Citan. The Citan is a further world premiere at the IAA for commercial vehicles. Behind the attractive look typical of the brand there are the corresponding technical features: whether it is the drive, chassis, interior or the great variety of different versions and equipment, the new Mercedes-Benz Citan provides an attractive and economically-efficient answer to the questions raised by city logistics.

Sprinter: even more comfortable, dynamic and efficient

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will be coming to the IAA with a new seven-speed automatic transmission which is unique in the van class – it combines comfort with economic efficiency and dynamics. BlueEfficiency technology is setting new standards in economic efficiency and cleanliness. With the additional functions of the ESP safety system, it is noticeably increasing its lead in this sector.

Vito E-CELL crewbus: E-drive for passenger transport

The Vito E-CELL crewbus is the first seven-seater with a purely electric drive and it is the next stage in the evolution of the successful Vito E-CELL. It will go into series production, will be offered in 16 countries throughout Europe, has no exhaust emissions and is therefore extremely suitable for carrying people especially in areas that are particularly emissions-sensitive.

Daimler Buses: world premiere of the Setra ComfortClass 500

The next world premiere is contributed by Daimler Buses with its Setra brand: the new Setra ComfortClass 500 will make its debut at the IAA for commercial vehicles. The product range is raising the business segment for coaches to a new level: aerodynamically perfected in every detail and with an emotive design full of new ideas for both the passenger area and the driver’s cockpit, as well as an abundance of safety systems and a new economical drive with Euro VI emissions standards, the new ComfortClass 500 underlines the well-known Setra motto: “Best in Class”.

Citaro: series production bus conforming to Euro VI emissions standard

The Mercedes-Benz Citaro, a world best-seller among regular-service buses, shines with a new drive system which upholds the Euro VI standards as well as attractive features which offer a comfortable ride. A great number of improvements have helped counteract the increased weight and lower the fuel consumption to a previously unreached level.

Major assemblies: revolutionary engines, light trailer axles

One of the prerequisites for producing environmentally friendly and efficient vehicles is the same across all brands and models: a perfect power train. An outstanding example: the generation of BlueEfficiency Power engines. In the space of one year, Mercedes-Benz has completely renewed its engines for the heavy-duty and medium-duty sectors. This was started with the OM 471 and further included the OM 470 and OM 934/936 model series. Their technical finesse includes the revolutionary injection system X-PULSE (OM 470/471) and the first adjustable camshaft in a diesel engine (OM 934/936). All the engines are already available as Euro VI versions.

However, Daimler is not only interested in improving the efficiency of motorised vehicles alone. Mercedes-Benz TrailerAxleSystems, the specialists for the axles of towed vehicles, are also the technical pioneers in this branch. TrailerAxleSystems will be proving this once again at the IAA with its weight-optimised axles for towed units.

Services: looking at the future of telematics

At the heart of the wide range of service offers are the services of the FleetBoard telematics system. Parallel to the introduction of the new Mercedes-Benz Antos, FleetBoard is presenting customised solutions for short-radius distribution applications. Trailer-management and extended operational analysis for bus and coach fleets assist companies in increasing their efficiency.

FleetBoard also allows a glance into the future with the innovative study of an open telematics platform and the prototype of an informative App for drivers. Based on FleetBoard, the Truck maintenance management and Telediagnosis functions allow expensive downtime to be minimised, thus also making this a tool for improving efficiency.
