GWM’s popular Steed 5 Double-Cab has once again achieved a solid second place in its category in the annual Kinsey Report, which analyses the parts prices of South Africa’s best-selling vehicles. In this year’s report Malcolm Kinsey has investigated the service, repair and crash parts of 72 popular vehicles sold in South Africa, including GWM’s Steed 5.

Competing in the Double-Cab segment along with seven other vehicles, the Steed 5 had the second most-affordable parts basket. One example of the Steed 5’s parts affordability that was highlighted was the cost of a replacement driver’s door window glass, which in the GWM’s case costs only R326, while the same item for a popular Japanese contender demands a heady R2 170!

“GWM is a value brand,” says COO Warren Olsen, “and this applies not only to the purchase price of our vehicles. GWM South Africa has worked very hard to ensure the type of parts back-up that customers of long-established brands enjoy. To this end it constructed a vast warehouse at its headquarters in Durban to house near R200-million worth of parts.”

ABOUT THE STEED 5 DOUBLE-CAB

The GWM Steed 5 Double-Cab remains a popular choice in South Africa, the consequence of its enviable blend of ruggedness, comfort and value. The line-up kicks off with the top-selling Steed 5 2,2 MPI, one of South Africa’s most affordable double-cab bakkies priced at R179 900. Powered by GWM’s trusty 78 kW 2,2-litre petrol engine, this model is equipped with such items as alloy wheels, electric windows/mirrors, radio/CD player with USB support, power steering etc.

Those hankering after even more power and features can opt for the 100 kW/200 Nm 2,4-litre petrol model, offered in 4×2 and 4×4 variants. Boasting ABS/EBD and dual airbags as standard, the 4×2 model’s price of R214 900 makes it a very appealing and affordable family vehicle.

Finally, the Steed 5 is also offered with GWM’s award-winning 2,0-litre VGT engine (110 kW/310 Nm), with the option of 4×2 or 4×4. Paired with a slick six-speed manual transmission, this engine delivers not only exceptional performance, but also good fuel economy (8,3 L/100 km).
